Heroin, prescription drug use up in the Twin Cities

Abuse of prescription narcotic drugs and heroin is soaring in the Twin Cities. According to a new report by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, emergency rooms and addiction treatment programs in the metro area reported spikes in the abuse of both types of drugs last year. In 2008, 1,187 patients — a record — sought treatment for abusing prescription narcotic painkillers, a three-fold increase since 2002. Between 2006 and 2007, Twin Cities emergency rooms reporting an increase of visits of more than 67 percent. SAN’A, Yemen – A passenger jet from Yemen with 153 people on board crashed in the Indian Ocean early Tuesday as it tried to land during heavy wind on the island nation of Comoros, and search teams rescued a child from the sea, officials said. New Mumbai bridge to open after a decade of delay as India struggles to improve infrastructure

MUMBAI, (AP) — One of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects — a $335 million bridge that cuts across a bay to link central Mumbai with its fast-growing western suburbs — is scheduled to open to the public Wednesday. More than a decade in the making, the 5.6 kilometer (3.5 mile) Bandra-Worli sea link is expected to cut driving time between the two neighborhoods it connects from 40 minutes to just six.
