Tsvangirai says Zimbabwe unity government takes step to resolve impasse over key appointments

HARARE, Zimbabwe – Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai says Zimbabwe’s power-sharing government has reached agreement on key appointments, ending a dispute that paralyzed the new administration. The former opposition leader said Thursday that a clash over the appointments of provincial governors and ambassadors have been resolved with President Robert Mugabe. Mugabe will also allow opposition lawmaker Roy Bennet to be sworn in as deputy agriculture minister after months of objection. Mugabe’s unilateral appointment of the Reserve Bank governor and attorney general will be referred to regional leaders for mediation.
