Coal debate highlights Duke meeting

Duke Energy Corp. CEO Jim Rogers Anti-coal activists dominated Duke Energy Corp.’s annual shareholder meeting inside and out Thursday in Charlotte. About 25 protesters gathered outside the Duke Energy Center at 526 S. Church St. They called for Duke to abandon its $2.4 billion, 825-megawatt expansion at its Cliffside coal plant, which straddles the Cleveland and Rutherford county line. And at the meeting itself, at least half a dozen activists who own Duke shares questioned Chief Executive Jim Rogers about Duke’s plans and policies.
