Arts & Science Council cuts staff

Charlotte’s Arts & Science Council has laid off eight employees — 31 percent of its staff. The job cuts follow the organization’s disclosure last week that its annual fund drive had fallen 37 percent below the goal of $11.2 million. This year’s drive raised $7 million. Last year, the drive had generated $11.2 million. Falling short all but guarantees smaller grants for the individual arts groups that rely, in part, on ASC funding to run their organizations.
