200 trees cut for Pangasinan highway

DAGUPAN CITY?Environment advocates were apparently caught napping when more than 200 trees in a patch of forest in Mangatarem town in Pangasinan were cut for a new road that will connect the province and Zambales. But the highway project did not have a tree-cutting permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Philippine Daily Inquirer learned. An official of the Department of Public Works and Highways said the project had yet to be funded and was not covered by any contract.
